In 2018, the International Festival of children’s creativity under the auspices of UNESCO Almaty Office traditionally unites young talented artists under the new name “The Planet of Art”. The upcoming cycle of the project, which will include even more interesting events and workshops, is dedicated to the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the capital of Kazakhstan – Astana. It is expected that this year Festival will gather more than 10,000 talented young masters of fine art, crafts, decorative and other arts from more than 20 countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the results of the competition, the winners of the Festival will be determined as follows: 5 people from each participating country and 5 people from each region of Kazakhstan and the cities Almaty and Astana as the host country.

Winners will be invited to the final of the project to Astana in June 2018, where they will be engaged in a rich educational and cultural program. For a few days they will plunge into the atmosphere of modern creative education, culture of peace and international understanding. They will be in a role ofyoung Ambassadors of their countries incelebration of the Anniversary of the capital of Kazakhstan.
The Festival will also include a solemn awarding ceremony and presentation of the next issue of the album series “The Planet of Art” with the theme “Astana – the city for Peace”.
According to organizers, the project chases only social aims and is held free of charge for participation, and the costs of the stay of 150 winners in Astana at the final will be fully covered by the partners of the event.
The international Festival “Children are painting the World” was born by the initiative of the Director General of UNESCO in 1999. Kazakhstan’s first album, released in the framework of the project, was symbolically opened by the foreword of the President of Kazakhstan – Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The contest successfully had been implementing on the territory of Kazakhstan more than 10 years, and in 2010 increased its geographic coverage under the new name of “Children are painting the World. Central Asia” providing an opportunity for children from neighboring countries to express their vision of the World through art. As a result, the event was included in the list of regular Central Asian programs of UNESCO Clubs. Thus, in 2012 the project was represented in the United Nations Head-Quarters in New York. In 2016, having reached the Asian-Pacific level, the project “Children are painting the world. Asia” has expanded its scope, thereby allowing talented young people from Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and other countries to participate in the competition. The festival was dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Almaty and in the same year was presented at the UNESCO Headquarters in the framework of the thematic event. In order to expand the boundaries and attract more gifted children and young people, in 2018 the project was united with the festival of creative youth of Kazakhstan “Children in the rhythm of the World”, and entereda new stage of development under the name “The Planet of Art”.
The organizer of the International Festival under the Auspices of UNESCO Almaty Office “The Planet of Art” is the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs in cooperation with the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy. The project is implemented with the broad support of the UNESCO Almaty Office, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO, Akimat of Astana, as well as a number of privatecompanies.
